Zeal Center partners to launch computer donation drive and tech training for the Sioux Falls area

SIOUX FALLS, SD, August 2019 – A computer technology donation drive supporting Sioux Falls area nonprofits and small businesses is set to launch Monday, November 4, at Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship in Sioux Falls. Potential beneficiaries in need of computer technology can apply online now through the August 30, 2019 deadline.

Sioux Falls area residents and businesses can donate technology items such as: laptops, desktop computers, and tablets that are no older than 5 years. No cell phones, TVs, free standing monitors, etc., will be accepted. Any device that does not meet the donation criteria is encouraged to be recycled at the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility or with Secure Enterprise Asset Management (SEAM) in Sioux Falls.

“It’s important to note that the Re:Boot Sioux Falls drive is not your typical ‘clean out the closet’ drive, as we are specifically looking for complete working systems, complete with cords and adapters to help support the needs of area nonprofits with limited budgets,” says Eric Sandhurst, President and Co-founder of Dakota Research and Consulting Organization (DRACO).

Donated computer and tablet hard drives will be sanitized and basic operating systems will be installed, courtesy of SEAM, a Sioux Falls company that provides certified, compliant and secure data destruction, electronics recycling, and asset recovery of business technology equipment.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to donate gently used devices to those in need without the worry of data security or compliance issues that often happen when systems aren’t properly tested or wiped,” says Marissa Begley of SEAM.

Area nonprofits and small businesses can apply for the program online here. Applications are due by Friday, August 30, at 5PM. Awarded beneficiaries will be contacted and announced on Wednesday, September 18.

Additional Program Details:

  • Technology sought: Laptops, desktop computers and tablets not older than 5 years, examples include: Intel Core Series 3rd generation or newer processors (i3, i5, i7, i9).

  • The donation goal is contingent on beneficiary needs.

  • Items can be delivered to Zeal Center (2329 N Career Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57107) starting Monday, November 4, 2019 continuing through Friday, November 29, 2019.

  • Restored items will be ready for beneficiaries by Spring of 2020.

  • DRACO will coordinate with DSU and USD students to provide custom technology workshops to beneficiaries on-site at Zeal Center in Spring 2020.
